Studio Ongarato announces a European studio, with the new office led by Director Sarah Cope, based in Amsterdam.
From Australia and Asia to the Middle East and North America, the move marks a new phase for the studio, bringing its work across branding, placemaking, wayfinding, hospitality and culture closer to clients, architects and cultural institutions across Europe. More than simply a new address, Amsterdam provides a base for new ideas, projects and connections across disciplines and borders.
Studio Ongarato’s European portfolio is gathering pace, with recent commissions spanning culture and hospitality: Museo Egizio in Turin, where the studio is working with the Museo Egizio and OMA on one of the world’s most significant museums of ancient Egyptian culture and Hotel Seegarten in Zurich, a boutique hotel reinvention in collaboration with Grüner & Friends Architects, Basel.
Sarah Cope: Leading from Amsterdam
Sarah Cope has been part of the studio for more than 12 years, helping develop the international calibre of its placemaking and wayfinding work. With a background in architecture, she brings more than 30 years of experience across architecture, design and the built environment.
Her experience spans cultural institutions, public spaces, hospitality and large-scale urban environments, including the Western Australian Museum, Powerhouse Parramatta, National Gallery of Australia, West Bund Financial District Masterplan in Shanghai, Potato Head Resort Bali, IT Company Headquarters in Seoul and Ace Hotels across Australia and Japan.
From Amsterdam, Sarah will lead the studio’s European projects and develop new relationships across the region. Her architectural background and experience working across different scales and contexts bring a valuable perspective to this next phase of the practice.
For Studio Ongarato, establishing a European presence is about more than geographical expansion. It is an opportunity to engage with new cultural contexts, exchange ideas across disciplines and develop work that responds to the character of each place. The ambition is to build meaningful relationships across Europe’s creative landscape and contribute to the ideas, spaces and experiences that shape it.
